Video Recording, Compression, Sharing

So I figured I'd type up a small guide so we're all on the same page with this whole video movement. I can tell you right now that you aren't going to be able to record with FRAPS and send it to just anyone; we're talking GIGS worth of footage here! So we'll start at step one and take it from there.

1) Download FRAPS. You'll have to find it yourself since I'm not going to link it, but try torrent sites. It's quite small, so it won't take long at all to download and set up.

2) When recording with FRAPS, stick with 30FPS and turn off the FPS overlay so it isn't present in your video. Your footage may be split into multiple video files. That's not a problem because it can be reassembled when it goes through the editing process.

3) So now you have your video files. The problem is, all the video is uncompressed and therefore takes up huge amounts of space on your hard drive. What you'll need to do next is compress that video footage before it can be sent off. I personally recommend using HandBrake: (http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php).

4) After downloading and installing HandBrake, download the following preset I've created: (http://www.mediafire.com/?8vetavntw8m78tw).

5) To configure this preset, open HandBrake and from the "Presets" tab, select "Import". Choose the preset you just downloaded and hit OK.

6) Now you have the preset imported and can use it for all the video compressing you'll need in the future. So it's time to select the video you want to compress. Click the "Source" button and select your video file.

7) Make sure that the "Yggdrasil" video preset is selected in the lower right-hand corner.

8) Last, hit the "Start" button and your video will go through the compression process.

Now that the video is compressed, it's ready to be sent off to an editor. If you have a compressed video you want shared, please contact myself or anyone else you want to fool around with your gameplay videos and come up with something artsy. Have fun recording!
